Aoxue Tang

Aoxue Tang

About Me: Hailing from Ann Arbor, Michigan, I am thrilled to serve as the AASA Co-chair this year! I've been involved in AASA since freshman year and feel extremely lucky to be part of such a great community. In my spare time, I love listening to music ranging from classical symphonies to rap, reading TechCrunch, and eating desserts. But most of all, I love talking to people and being challenged by new ideas. Let's get to know each other!

Xuyi Guo

Xuyi Guo

About Me: Xuyi lives to party hard and explore the vast expanses of the Pacific Ocean. In his free time he swims with dolphins and takes care of endangered porpoises living on the coast of Florida beaches. From afar people often mistake him as a panda as he enjoys supplementing his diet with bamboo, but he is in fact just a secret alien from a small planet somewhere in the vicinity of Betelgeuse.

About Me: What's up everyone, I love fishing in Lagunita lake and running through the wilderness of the Dish. As a fiscally responsible person, I enjoy spending my dough on squid ink icecream and llama parties for my friends. Did you know that I'm also a professional alpaca breeder who owns a very actively running alpaca farm that specializes in fiber production for Vogue fashion pieces.

Mark Flores

Year: Class of 2016

Major: English and Human Biology

Hometown: Honolulu, Hawaii

Interests: Things I would major in if I stayed at Stanford forever: Asian American Studies, Communications, Comparative Literature, Comparative Studies in Race and Ethnicity, East Asian Studies, Feminist, Gender, and Sexuality Studies, History, Psychology, Sociology, (and English and Human Biology)

Other: Pokemon, Tetris, Napping, Eating, Buzzfeed, Motivational Quotes, Self-Reflection, Asian American Literature, Asian American Activism (but low key), Social and Cultural Scripts, Identity, Culture, Social Constructs, Reading, Manga, Self-Help, Peer Counseling, Talking, Listening, Sass, Eggplant Parmesan, Good Neighbors, Stories, Friendship, Fiction, Poetry.

About Me: Hi! The name’s Mark, and I’m a Junior here at Stanford (see above). I got involved in the Asian American community fairly late here (this is my first year in AASA), but late really is better than never! I’ve changed my major 3 times definitively over the past year, but am glad to finally have decided on what to officially be studying. I don’t consider myself a particularly interesting person, so one of my hobbies is reading online bios (such as this one) and asking people to tell me their life stories. My future aspirations are to find a job, stay on budget, and broaden my understanding of the world, my past aspirations were to find a major, earn some money, and broaden my understanding of myself, and my current goals are to just enjoy the ride. I’m always opening to grabbing coffee with a friend and I’d love to sit and chat with you! :)

Jackie Low

Jackie Low

Year: Class of 2015

Hometown: Oakland, CA

About Me: Hello person reading my bio! I'm Jackie and I am glad that you have some interest in AASA/Stanford.

I hail from the far away place of Oakland, CA, a staggering 40 minute drive. Coming from a diverse place like Oakland, Stanford was both familiar and a completely different world! I joined AASA as a senior, after having a great exerience as one of the logistics cochairs for the annual LTS Conference (it is in January, check it out!) and reflecting on my life as an Asian American. The greatest joys in my life include family, learning, connecting with people, good conversation, and delicious food (all of which can be found in AASA!). If you ever want to cook something delicious, whilst having a conversation about literally anything- amazing books (personal favs include works by Murakami, Steinbeck) to creepy, crawly parasites (guinea worms or Taenia solium- it's absolutely disgusting...check it out!)- holla at this girl!
